My second 3D printer design. Inspired by the 3uP, but rebuilt from scratch focusing on improving speed, print quality, and reliability. Again utilizing an extrusion frame, this time with a CoreXY belt system and oil free linear bushings for motion. This design is the first to use machined aluminum plates for improved rigidity and easier assembly. Less 3D printed parts were used in order to speed up kit production time.
Over 100 of these 3D printer kits were sold. In that time, I learned about the importance of DFM, designing parts for ease of assembly, and sourcing. All in addition to what this taught me about 3D modeling for a true production machine built from the ground up.
